Sāriputta’s Attainment of Textual Analysis Vibhattisutta

There Sāriputta addressed the mendicants: Tatra kho āyasmā sāriputto bhikkhÅ« āmantesi: ā€œReverends, mendicants!ā€ ā€œÄvuso bhikkhaveā€ti.

ā€œReverend,ā€ they replied. ā€œÄ€vusoā€ti kho te bhikkhÅ« āyasmato sāriputtassa paccassosuṁ. Sāriputta said this: Āyasmā sāriputto etadavoca:

ā€œReverends, I realized the textual analysis of the meaning—piece by piece and expression by expression—a fortnight after I ordained. ā€œAddhamāsÅ«pasampannena me, āvuso, atthapaį¹­isambhidā sacchikatā odhiso byaƱjanaso. In many ways I explain, teach, assert, establish, clarify, analyze, and reveal it. Tamahaṁ anekapariyāyena ācikkhāmi desemi paƱƱāpemi paį¹­į¹­hapemi vivarāmi vibhajāmi uttānÄ«karomi. Whoever has any doubt or uncertainty, let them ask me, Yassa kho panassa kaį¹…khā vā vimati vā, so maṁ paƱhena. I will answer. Our teacher is present, he who is so very skilled in our teachings. Ahaṁ veyyākaraṇena sammukhÄ«bhÅ«to no satthā yo no dhammānaṁ sukusalo.
