Vimala (2nd) Vimalattheragāthā

Shunning bad friends, “Pāpamitte vivajjetvā, associate with the supreme individual. bhajeyyuttamapuggalaṁ; Stick to the advice he gave you, Ovāde cassa tiṭṭheyya, aspiring to unshakable happiness. patthento acalaṁ sukhaṁ.

If you’re lost in the middle of a great sea, Parittaṁ dārumāruyha, and you clamber up on a little log, you’ll sink. yathā sīde mahaṇṇave; So too, a person who lives well Evaṁ kusītamāgamma, sinks by relying on a lazy person. sādhujīvīpi sīdati; Hence you should avoid such Tasmā taṁ parivajjeyya, a lazy person who lacks energy. kusītaṁ hīnavīriyaṁ.

Dwell with the noble ones Pavivittehi ariyehi, who are secluded and determined pahitattehi jhāyibhi; and always energetic; Niccaṁ āraddhavīriyehi, the astute who practice absorption. paṇḍitehi sahāvase”ti.

Tatruddānaṁ

Aṅgaṇiko bhāradvājo, paccayo bākulo isi; Dhaniyo mātaṅgaputto, sobhito vāraṇo isi.

Vassiko ca yasojo ca, sāṭimattiyupāli ca; Uttarapālo abhibhūto, gotamo hāritopi ca.

Thero tikanipātamhi, nibbāne vimalo kato; Aṭṭhatālīsa gāthāyo, therā soḷasa kittitāti.
