YudhaƱjaya’s Conduct YudhaƱjayacariya

ā€œWhen I was Prince YudhaƱjaya ā€œYadāhaṁ amitayaso, of infinite fame, Rājaputto yudhaƱjayo; I was stirred with urgency on seeing Ussāvabinduṁ sÅ«riyātape, a fallen dewdrop in the heat of the sun. Patitaṁ disvāna saṁvijiṁ.

Taking that to be of prime importance, Taññevādhipatiṁ katvā, I fostered that urgency. saṁvegamanubrūhayiṁ; I bowed to my mother and father, Mātāpitū ca vanditvā, and begged permission to go forth. pabbajjamanuyācahaṁ.

With joined palms, Yācanti maṁ paƱjalikā, along with the citizens of town and country, they asked, sanegamā saraį¹­į¹­hakā; ā€˜This very day, rule this great land, ā€˜Ajjeva putta paį¹­ipajja, so successful and prosperous.’ iddhaṁ phÄ«taṁ mahāmahiṁ’.

The King and the Queens, Sarājake sahorodhe, with the citizens of town and country, sanegame saraį¹­į¹­hake; cried pitifully, Karuṇaṁ paridevante, as I forsook unconcerned. anapekkhova pariccajiṁ.

Kingship over the entire earth, Kevalaṁ pathaviṁ rajjaṁ, family, retinue, and fame—ñātiparijanaṁ yasaṁ; I gave them up without a second thought, Cajamāno na cintesiṁ, because it was solely for awakening. bodhiyāyeva kāraṇā.

I had no dislike of my parents, Mātāpitā na me dessā, nor did I dislike the great fame. napi me dessaṁ mahāyasaṁ; But because omniscience is precious to me, SabbaƱƱutaṁ piyaṁ mayhaṁ, that is why I forsook kingship.ā€ tasmā rajjaṁ pariccajinā€ti.
