With Sīsupacālā Sīsupacālāsutta

At Sāvatthī. Sāvatthinidānaṁ.

Then the nun Sīsupacālā robed up in the morning … Atha kho sīsupacālā bhikkhunī pubbaṇhasamayaṁ nivāsetvā …pe… and sat at the root of a tree for the day’s meditation. aññatarasmiṁ rukkhamūle divāvihāraṁ nisīdi.

Then Māra the Wicked went up to Sīsupacālā and said to her, Atha kho māro pāpimā yena sīsupacālā bhikkhunī tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā sīsupacālaṁ bhikkhuniṁ etadavoca: “Nun, whose creed do you approve of?” “kassa nu tvaṁ, bhikkhuni, pāsaṇḍaṁ rocesī”ti?

“I don’t approve anyone’s creed, sir.” “Na khvāhaṁ, āvuso, kassaci pāsaṇḍaṁ rocemī”ti.

“In whose name did you shave your head? “Kaṁ nu uddissa muṇḍāsi, You look like an ascetic, Samaṇī viya dissasi; but you don’t approve any creed. Na ca rocesi pāsaṇḍaṁ, Why do you live as if lost?” Kimiva carasi momūhā”ti.

“Followers of other creeds “Ito bahiddhā pāsaṇḍā, are confident in their views. diṭṭhīsu pasīdanti te; But I don’t approve their teaching, Na tesaṁ dhammaṁ rocemi, for they’re no experts in the Dhamma. te dhammassa akovidā.

But there is one born in the Sakyan clan, Atthi sakyakule jāto, the unrivaled Buddha, buddho appaṭipuggalo; champion, dispeller of Māra, Sabbābhibhū māranudo, everywhere undefeated, sabbatthamaparājito.

everywhere freed, and unattached, Sabbattha mutto asito, the Clear-eyed One sees all. sabbaṁ passati cakkhumā; He has attained the end of all deeds, Sabbakammakkhayaṁ patto, freed with the ending of attachments. vimutto upadhisaṅkhaye; That Blessed One is my Teacher, So mayhaṁ bhagavā satthā, and I approve his instruction.” tassa rocemi sāsanan”ti.

Then Māra the Wicked, thinking, “The nun Sīsupacālā knows me!” miserable and sad, vanished right there. Atha kho māro pāpimā “jānāti maṁ sīsupacālā bhikkhunī”ti dukkhī dummano tatthevantaradhāyīti.
