With Vishnu Veṇḍusutta

Standing to one side, the godling Vishnu spoke this verse in the Buddha’s presence: Ekamantaṁ ṭhito kho veṇḍu devaputto bhagavato santike imaṁ gāthaṁ abhāsi:

“Happy are the men “Sukhitāva te manujā, who pay homage to the Holy One! sugataṁ payirupāsiya; They apply themselves to Gotama’s instructions, Yuñjaṁ gotamasāsane, diligently training.” appamattā nu sikkhare”ti.

“Those who practice absorption <j>in accord with the training”, “Ye me pavutte siṭṭhipade, said the Buddha to Vishnu, (veṇḍūti bhagavā) “in the way of teaching I’ve proclaimed, Anusikkhanti jhāyino; diligent while there is still time; Kāle te appamajjantā, they won’t fall under the sway of Death.” Na maccuvasagā siyun”ti.
