The Suttas in the Sutta Pitaka are preserved in collections known as Nikayas:
- Digha Nikaya
- Majjhima Nikaya
- Samyutta Nikaya
- Anguttara Nikaya
- Khuddaka Nikaya
These are not arranged as a step-by-step path, but as a system to preserve the teachings.
